20e. The GR8 Escape - Extra Steam Gala in April 2011

There were seven steam locomotives in action on Saturday April 9th 2011 and this great display of mainly 2-8-0 freight locomotives was absolutely brilliant, continued on Sunday April 10th and the trains mainly ran on time!

The fantastically satisfying steam train show was performed on the GREAT CENTRAL RAILWAY by

Great Central Railway GR8 Escape GCR Steam Gala 2011: Ex GWR Prairie tank engine Class 4500 number 5542 at Leicester North Station with the auto-car. This Collet 4500 Class 2-6-2T was built at Swindon in 1928 to a design by Churchward.

45160 Stanier Class 8F 2-8-0 freight locomotive built for the Turkish State Railways

Great Central Railway GR8 Escape GCR Steam Gala 2011: Ex Turkish State Railways 45160, a Stanier 2-8-0 locomotive departing from Rothley Station with a train for Leicester North Station. This 8F 2-8-0 was built by the North British Locomotive works in 1940. See also 45170 in a very unrestored condition at Shildon NRM Museum
