Class 60 Co-Co diesel locomotives were built by Brush Traction at Loughborough from 1989-1993 nicknamed 'tugs' by railway enthusiasts (re-edit 28/09/2022)

Class 60 diesel-electric locomotives were designed to haul heavy freight trains

Class 60 locos are powered by Mirrlees Blackstone engines of 2310 kW (3100 hp).

Class 60 locomotives have a maximum tractive effort of 500 kN (106500 lbf).

Class 60 diesels are some of the most powerful locomotives on British Railway networks and Class 60 locomotives have a design/top speed of 62/60 mph.

Class 60 diesel-electric locomotive 60066 leaving York heading north with a freight train of empty wagons. Class 60 locomotive 60066 entered service in 1991 and is operated by DB cargo.

Blue and yellow liveried GBRf Class 60 diesel locomotive 60021 heading south through Newcastle station with a freight train of biomass hoppers (13/09/2019). Class 60 locomotive 60021 entered service in 1990 and is operated by GB Railfreight.

Colas Rail Freight Class 60 diesel locomotive 60087 Bountiful returning empty wagons for hauling Biomass from Liverpool Docks to Drax Power Station. Class 60 60087 entered service in 1991 and is now operated by GB Railfreight.

Class 60 diesel locomotive 60062 (66 062) by-passing Middlesbrough station with a westbound freight train of 'steel empties' from Lackenby B.S.C. to Scunthorpe B.S.C. (Dec 2014). Class 60 60062, in the red livery of DB SCHENKER, was named 'Samuel Johnson', but now called 'Stainless Pioneer'. Class 60 60062 entered service in 1991 and is operated by DB cargo.

Class 60 diesel-electric locomotive 60092, in the red livery of DB Schenker, Tees Yard fuelling and stabling point, between Thornaby and Middlesbrough (May 2015). A Class 66 diesel in the far distance with ex EWS limestone freight train. Class 60 locomotive 60092 entered service in1992 and is operated by DB Cargo.

Stabled at Teesside Thornaby Yard, a DBS Class 60 diesel-electric locomotive 60007 (60 007) is painted in the red livery of DB Schenker with the logo SWITCH ON TO SAFETY. Class 60 locomotive carries the name "The Spirit of Tom Kendell". On the right is 66055. Class 60 locomotive 60007 entered service in 1993 and us operated by DB Cargo.
