45305 is working special steam excursions from York 2011-2012. It was built in 1937 by Armstrong Whitworth Company in Newcastle.

The Stanier 4-6-0 'Black Fives' designed for passenger trains and express freight trains (mixed traffic 5MT rating).

Great Central Railway - GCR workshops and shed yard at Loughborough: An ex LMS/BR locos under reconstruction-rebuilding-restoration in the works near Loughborough Central station. Stanier 'Black Five' 4-6-0 Class 5MT locomotive 45305. 45305 is ex LMS 5305 and built by Armstrong Whitworth and Company in Newcastle in 1937

Patricia Gallagher sent me these images of steam locomotive 45305 being transported through Bradford (opposite Great Horton Library) on the 25th of April 2013.

Has the passerby noticed the load on the transporter lorry?

In this photograph 45305 it carries the name "ALDERMAN A. E. DRAPER", and therein lies a tale! The yard of Albert Drapers and Sons Ltd, Hull, broke up 742 ex BR steam locomotives and 45305 would have been the 743rd. Albert Draper decided the best cleanest looking locomotive left should be preserved and restored to full working order and this happened to be 45305. So many thanks Mr Draper as 45305 is still running today and probably in a lot better shape than when it was 'retired' from British Railways in 1968.

Those were the days of the Black Fives!
