Bullied SR 4-6-2 'Battle of Britain' Class 'lightweight' Pacific design, 34081 92 SQUADRON is still in its original air smoothed casing, thermic syphons and Boxpox driving wheels. 34081 was built at Brighton Works in 1948, so entered directly into service on the Southern Region of British Railway,

Unless otherwise stated, all the photographs were taken, mainly at Wansford, at the Nene Valley Railway Mixed Traffic Gala in September 2017.

34081 and the other Battle of Britain and BB steam locomotives were designed by O.V.S. Bulleid, Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Southern Railway from 1937 - 1949 whose first new design was the 'Merchant Navy' class in 1941.

 Bullied was the asked to reduce overall weight, so the 'lightweight' Pacific West Country & Battle of Britain class was designed and built with a similar appearance but some 12 tons lighter at 86 tons giving a 90% route availability - main increased access were the more rural west country lines. Mechanically and externally both classes were very similar.

The valve gear of 34081 is chain driven and located in an oil bath between the chassis members. 34081, unlike many others in its class, 34081 was to remain in her original as-built form. 34081 92 Squadron was initially allocated to Ramsgate shed hauled many prestigious expresses such as the 'Thanet Belle', 'The Man of Kent', the 'Night Ferry' and the 'Golden Arrow' as well as on more mundane commuter trains out of London Waterloo and Charing Cross.

When 34081 was made redundant upon completion of the Kent coast electrification scheme, 34081 was sent in September 1957 to Exmouth Junction shed with around 165,000 miles to her credit. 34081 hauled services in Devon & Cornwall, including the famous 'Atlantic Coast Express'.

Later 34081 was transferred Eastleigh shed where she worked for few short months on the Bournemouth line but withdrawn from service in 1964.

34081 was stored at Eastleigh shed awaiting disposal with a final mileage of 741,511. 34081 ended up in Dai Woodham's scrap yard at Barry, South Wales but was finally saved and completely restored to full working condition.
