The British rail freight company English, Welsh and Scottish Railway Company (EWS) was taken over by DB Schenker. Their services include transferring mail, locomotive hire, waggonload traffic, cross channel freight trains via the Channel Tunnel, trainload freight carrying oil, aggregates, cement and freight traffic related to the coal, electricity generation and steel industries, and also infrastructure trains for Railtrack. In this country DB Schenker operates mainly ex EWS Class 66 diesel-electric locomotives to haul freight trains.
