It was part of the BR Standard Class 2MT 2-6-0 series designed by R.A. Riddles, intended for light mixed-traffic duties on secondary routes. The class was a development of the LMS Ivatt 2MT “Mickey Mouse” design, with improvements in crew comfort and maintenance. BR Service History of 78019 Initially allocated to Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria. Later worked in the North East and North West, eventually allocated to Willesden (1A). Duties included empty stock workings out of London Euston. Withdrawn from service in November 1966 and sent to Woodham Brothers scrapyard in Barry, South Wales. Initially moved to a private site, then spent over 20 years at the Severn Valley Railway (SVR). In 1998, a joint ownership agreement between Charles Newton and the Loughborough Standard Locomotive Group Ltd led to its relocation to the Great Central Railway (GCR). Restoration completed in 2004, and 78019 returned to traffic. Operated until 2015, when a burst steam pipe ended its season prematurely. Underwent further overhaul and re-entered service in 2022, notably running alongside sister engine 78018, marking a historic reunion of two Standard Class 2s in preservation.
