46100 ROYAL SCOT was built as Class 7P Royal Scot at Crewe Works in 1927 from a Fowler parallel design, as 6152 THE KING'S DRAGOON GUARDSMAN. A couple of Scots pipers sent her off on her first trip on the NYMR from Grosmont

This locomotive swapped identities permanently with 6100 ROYAL SCOT in 1933 for a tour of the USA. It was rebuilt at Crewe in 1950 with taper boiler and curved smoke deflectors and withdrawn from British Railways service in 1962.

I hadn't seen 46100 ROYAL SCOT since the late 1950s - early 1960s at Crewe, Liverpool Lime Street, Carlisle or Wigan North Western stations etc.!

So it was great to 'capture it' with four images at York station, accompanied by Black Five 45407, as they made their way to Grosmont on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway on March 21st 2017.

Some comments on 46100 ROYAL SCOT: The original LMS 6100 ROYAL SCOT Royal Scot was the first in a new breed of steam locomotives, built by the LMS for their fastest passenger services from London to Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Carlisle and Glasgow. LMS 6100 ROYAL SCOT was chosen to appear on behalf of Britain at the 1933 'Century of Progress' exhibition in Chicago, USA. The locomotive with a full set of carriages were shipped to the United States and appeared not only at the exhibition, but also toured the main line railway tracks USA and Canada, even 6100 even crossed the Rocky Mountains! 46100 ROYAL SCOT was rebuilt by British Railways in 1950 and went on to serve another 12 years in traffic on the West Coast Main Line working exclusively on express passenger trains. 46100 ROYAL SCOT was eventually retired in October 1962 and was purchased by Billy Butlin. 46100 ROYAL SCOT became a star attraction at Butlins in Skegness as a static exhibit. 46100 ROYAL SCOT briefly returned to steam at Bressingham Steam Museum from 1972 to 1978 before, sadly, spending almost the next 30 years as a static exhibit. 46100 ROYAL SCOT briefly steamed in 2009 before it was discovered that a major overhaul was required. After a major overhaul, 46100 ROYAL SCOT returned to steam in September 2015 making her successful main line debut on December 22nd and 23rd with test runs from Crewe to Carnforth and return. 46100 ROYAL SCOT hauled her first main line passenger train for over fifty years on February 6th 2016 from Crewe to Holyhead and was on the North York Moors National Park from Saturday 25th March to April 2nd 2017, when and where, most of these photographs were taken.
