ST MARY'S RC CATHEDRAL CHURCH, NEWCASTLE
St Mary's RC Cathedral Newcastle: The exterior architecture of the church designed by Pugin in 1844, inspired by his 'Gothic Revival' approach. The spire is 222 ft high! and built later in 1860-1873 by Hansom.
St Mary's RC Cathedral Newcastle: The main entrance to the Cathedral
St Mary's RC Cathedral Newcastle: Looking down the nave to the chancel, each aisle arcade has five pointed arches. On the right is the south aisle. The attractively and richly decorated church is beautifully maintained and please to sit in and pause for thought!

St Mary's RC Cathedral Newcastle: The stained glass (painted glass) window of Newcastle's industrial heritage really caught my attention, a beautiful piece of work.
St Mary's RC Cathedral Newcastle: Glassmaking, pottery, working men of the shipyards, blast furnace, light bulb
St Mary's RC Cathedral Newcastle: Welding and steel fabrication, shipbuilding, steam locomotives, the Tyne Bridge

The spire of the 18th century grade 1 listed building of All Saints Church (ex C of E) on City Road, Newcastle.
All Saints Church viewed from looking up from the quayside near the Custom House. All Saints Church was built from 1786 to 1796, designed by the architect David Stephenson. The poet Sir John Betjeman regarded it as one of the finest Georgian churches in England. A church has stood on this site since the 12th century, but the original medieval All hallows Church was demolished and replaced by the present building. It was deconsecrated in 1961.
All Saints Church of England, Newcastle: The church was rebuilt on the site of a demolished medieval church in 1786-1786 by David Stephenson. So many medieval churches have been lost in this way, BUT, All Saints is a handsome Georgian building whose spire is prominent from across the River Tyne in Gateshead.
All Saints Church, Newcastle: However, it does not seem in a good state of repair (2013) but I would love to explore the interior of the church - when is it open? The spire sits on top of a tower and both are quite richly decorated in their stonework. The church is set in a graveyard, dating back to medieval times?
All Saints Church, Newcastle: The entrance with its grand portico of four Greek Doric columns supporting a fine pediment. All Saints church was deconsecrated
in 1961, and converted to offices/auditorium in 1983-84 as the Town
Teacher initiative. All Saints was then used by the Royal Northern
Sinfonia before their move to The Sage, Gateshead in 2004. For a time
All Saints was used by the Church of Saint Willibrord with All Saints, a
member of The Old Catholic Church Anglican Diocese. All Saints Church
has also hosted musical events, but, after flood damage caused by
blocked roof drains over the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 winters, the
building was left in a state of semi-disrepair. In 2015 it was placed on
Historic England's Heritage at Risk register. In 2019, the local
congregation of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in England and Wales
signed a 150-year lease for All Saints and after a comprehensive
restoration project, worship services as All Saints Presbyterian Church
began in October, 2019.
