Probably the last time we will climb Croagh Patrick at
aged 73 and 77, but you never know!!!
From half-way up Croagh Patrick, a view of the islands of Clew bay and
the hills of Co. Mayo beyond.
The broad stone pathway of the 2nd half of the ascent of Croagh Patrick
(4 km in all).
Croagh Patrick is 764 m (2507 ft) high mountain,
nicknamed 'The Reek' and an important pilgrimage destination,
particularly the last Sunday in July when thousands make the ascent,
some barefoot.
The pyramid shaped Croagh Patrick overlooks the
village of Murrisk and beyond Clew Bay and its hundreds of islands.

Archaeological surveys have shown the remains of
an enclosure encircling the mountain top and dozens of circular
huts associated with it, dating from the Bronze Age and Iron Age
- the mystic of the mountain goes back along way, well before
Christian times, though a chapel or oratory has existed on the
summit of Croagh Patrick since the 5th century CE (AD).
