The blessed Well in a field above the ancient Christian site of Killard parish church.

This blessed holy well is called Tobar-Cruithnoir-an-domhain (the well of the Creator of the world).

Within the walls are the ruins of the old parish church Killard (meaning 'church on the hill) which was built around 1000 AD (1000 CE).

In 1651, the church was attacked by Cromwell's soldiers and badly damaged.

The parish of Killard was founded in the 6th century by St. Senan, the patron saint of West Clare, whose oratory stood on the same site.

Killard parish church was not used after 1855 and a new church built in Doonbeg village, but since demolished and replaced with a new modern church.

The White Strand, not far from Killard, is sheltered from the prevailing winds, attracts many visitors in the summer, and is safe for swimming and manned by lifeguards in the summer season.

Above White Strand Beach is a memorial monument to Pat McDonnell/McDonald (1878-1954) who won an Olympic gold medal with the shot-put in the at the 1920 Olympic Games.  Pat McDonald/McDonnell was born in Killard and won an Olympic Gold Medal representing the US in Men's Shot Put and on winning his Olympic gold medal in 1920, he was aged 42, making him the oldest Olympic track and field champion ever, and from the little rural village of Killard.
