First panoramic view of the majestic sea Cliffs of Moher.
Around 5 miles of almost vertical sea cliffs consisting
of bands of sandstone, siltstone, mudstone and shale rising to a maximum
height of over 700 feet. You find the Cliffs of Moher off the north-south R478 that runs
parallel to the wild Atlantic coast of west Clare and there is plenty of
car parking spaces. The name 'Cliffs of Moher' take its name from an ancient fort called
Moher (or Mhothair) which stood on the Hag’s Head, at the southern end
of the Cliffs of Moher. This was demolished in 1808, during the Napoleonic Wars, and
replaced by the signal tower you see there today.
The 19th century O'Brien's Tower built in 1835 as a 'tea
house' for Victorian tourists and guests.

The footpaths are paved or gravel tracked and a barrier
wall on the seaward side, making them very safe to walk on.

From Victorian times the Cliffs of Moher have been a popular tourist
destination.
