The Town Hall, Market Square, in the centre of Kilrush,
with a few market stalls. Kilrush Town Hall (Irish: Halla an
Bhaile Cill Rois) is the municipal building in the Market Square and
currently used as by Clare County Council as offices for the
administration of local services. The Town Hall, completed in1808, was
commissioned as a market house for Kilrush by the member of parliament
and wealthy land owner, John Ormsby Vandeleur, residing at Kilrush
House. The new building was designed in the neoclassical architectural
style, built in brick with a cement render finish and limestone
dressings.
On the orange coloured building is a plaque to the first
lady of concertina, founding member and first president of C.C.E. in Co.
Clare.

The N67 main road goes up Henry Street from the town centre Market Square.
This is where we stayed in the Square, Kilrush. A holiday house of real character between the West Clare
Dry Cleaners and a
Paddy Power betting shop!
The memorial to the Manchester Martyrs' who were executed
in Salford, Manchester in 1867 for their daring rescue of a Fenian
prisoner. The monument is a carved limestone statue of the Maid of Erin.

What was the old port of Kilrush is now partly a 120 berth marina with
automatic lock gate access to the River Shannon Estuary
Kilrush was once one of the twin termini of the West Clare Railway from
Ennis, the neighbouring town of Kilkee being the other (see Irish
railway history). The railway closed in 1961 but a short section of the
railway has been re-opened at Moyasta as a tourist attraction. One of
the original steam engines on the route, the Slieve Callan has been
lovingly restored. An old railway arch and plaque commemorating
the West Clare Railway from Ennis to Kilrush which ran to the harbour quayside through the
arch.
