There are many sections in RHS Garden Harlow Carr

namely the Winter Walk, the Kitchen Garden, Gardens through Time, The Queen Mother’s Lake, stretches of natural Woodland, the very flowery Streamside walk, the Wildflower meadow and bird hide, the Arboretum, numerous Humus-rich terraces with a huge variety of plants, the Winter Garden, the Scented Garden, the Foliage Garden, innumerable Annual and perennial displays, splendid Ornamental Grasses borders, the Alpine House (a large 'greenhouse').

There is also a Learning Centre and library and the shop, plant centre and Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms - a large cafe and a nice small outside cafe to sit in pleasant surroundings munching a snack to a nice cup of coffee or tea!

I hope my 'wide' selection of pictures does justice to RHS Garden Harlow Carr which is well worth a visit.

Betty's Cafe-Restaurant

A brief but quite interesting history of RHS Garden Harlow Carr

Springs of sulphur water were discovered on the Harlow Carr site in the 18th century and developed as a spa hotel later. In 1840, the owner of the estate, Henry Wright, cleaned out and protected one of the wells and four years later built a hotel and a bath house and gardens were laid out around the bath house and in 1861 the site at Harlow Carr springs was described as "a sweet secluded spot... the grounds neatly laid out, adorned with a selection of trees, shrubs, flowers, walks, easy seats and shady arbours" - sounds good! The hotel later became the Harrogate Arms but closed in 2013. In 2014 the Harrogate Arms and the land surrounding it was acquired by the RHS with plans progressing to restore the building, create new gardens around it and reintroduce its links with the old bath house and so RHS Garden Harlow Carr was born.
