"To be invited to show at Fountains and Studley Royal will crown my latter years.  This for me is an opportunity of a lifetime that I never believed would happen. I am so grateful to be showing in the only World Heritage Site is Yorkshire."

Peter Hicks:

"Most of the challenges faced through my practice as a painter have been from within shaping and forming the way I see.  It has been a journey of discovery , a mostly unexpected adventure in a life time devoted to aspects of visual art.  My creative gifts were a surprise , held in place by a memory that never failed.  I have seen many gifted and talented practitioners, I married one for a start. 

But my stumbling pathway chosen by the forces governing my thoughts masked a way that could not have been an accident, learning forever learning , year after year as I did, was my gift.  The chance to work at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal late in my life came as a surprise but then it became a chance to see what could be brought to a places so rich with visual promise.  To a painter crossing from the 20th century to the 21st century heavy with the painterly freedoms and practical choices of our time.

The exhibition was curated in the upper floor of the old medieval mill of Fountains Abbey.

Most of the paintings are shown in the old medieval (in origin) mill, and the mill race and water wheel still work!

All the paintings were beautifully arranged to suit their style and venue.
