The pictures describe the coastal sections of the O'Sullivan Mile Walk to the O'Sullivan Bothers Memorial south-west of Adrigole on the R572 road from Glengarriff to Adrigole

This is a nice little diversion in Co. West Cork when walking on the Beara Peninsula on doing this area's section of the Wild Atlantic Way.

The story of the O'Sullivan bothers is a truly tragic tale from World War II.

Their family had emigrated to America in the mid 19th century, from Trafrask, Adrigole in 1849.

The parking area for Trafrask Bay Beach near Adrigole where we started our version of the O'Sullivan Mile, Beara Peninsula.

We walked south-west by the shore for a few hundred yards to a small quay

The O'Sullivan brothers memorial by the quay near Trafrask, not far from the ancestral house of five brothers who where lost at sea during the Second World War, they all served on the same warship that was sunk by a Japanese submarine

We then followed a road continuing south-west until we found a lovely green track lined with many wild flowers.

Just before the green track is a deserted house with rather fine views onto Bantry Bay

The green track ends on the shoreline of a little bay where you find the official O'Sullivan Bothers memorial.

  Trafrask Beach

The O'Sullivan Mile walk - the O'Sullivan bothers memorial stone on the shoreline near Trafrask near Adrigole.

The ancestral home of the five O'Sullivan brothers was in Trafrask, Adrigole.

George, Francis, Joseph and Albert O'Sullivan all joined the US navy and subsequently served on the same ship, the USS Juneau.

Their ship was sunk in November 1942 and all five brothers perished.

The coastline near Trafrask, as we headed back up to main road to Adrigole, and then completed a circular route on foot back to where we started.
