On the west side of Whitby, Baxtergate, one of the main shopping streets, runs down to the harbour near the swing bridge.

Whitby Merchant Seamen's Hospital Houses founded in 1675 (refurbished 1996) on Church Street on the east side of the river.

Sanders Yard, just of Church Street, Whitby A good place to eat - good food and very comfortable Sanders Yard is a family owned and operated business offering accommodation in Whitby. It offers you a good experience when visiting Whitby and enjoy  cosy, clean and welcoming accommodation. The Sanders Yard rooms and cottages are located off the cobbled streets of Church Street, Whitby and are only a short walk from Whitby Abbey, beaches, shops and restaurants.

 

 

The Whitby Bookshop in Church Street is very good, well worth a visit, best bookshop in Whitby!

 

Sandgate, which leads into Market Place

The Old Town Hall of Whitby, Market Place, Church Street, erected by Nathaniel Cholmley in 1798.

Some impressive columns support the upper floors of the old Town Hall.
