Students attend Junior secondary school for JSS integrated science grades 7-9 (JSS for ~13-15 year olds)

In the ninth grade, students take the Junior Secondary Certificate Examination (JSCE) in integrated science at the end of the junior year to qualify for the limited number of openings in senior secondary schools.

The Junior Secondary School integrated science examination (JSS3 exam) is part of the qualifying exam for Senior Secondary School.

Junior Secondary School consists of the JSS I, JSS 2 and JSS 3 which is equivalent to the 7th, 8th, and 9th Grade respectively.

Senior Secondary school consists of the SS I, SS 2, and SS 3 which is equivalent to the 10th, 11th and 12th Grade.

The General Certificate of Education Examination (GCE O level) was replaced by the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE). The SSCE examination is conducted at the end of the Secondary School studies.

West African Examination Council (WAEC) conducts both the SSCE and GCE.

In Senior Secondary School Class 2 (SS2), students may be taking the GCE O Level chemistry exam,

Senior Secondary School (SSS) Grades 10-12, in twelfth year take the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) in science (physics, chemistry, and biology)

The Senior Secondary School Exam in chemistry is taken in the last year of high school (SS3).

Secondary School Certificate (SSC or West African Senior Secondary School Certificate)

Students who want to apply for higher education but who do not score high enough on the SSCE may take the General Certificate Examination (GCE) in the fall of the following year to attempt to qualify for openings.

The SSCE exam in chemistry is prepared and administered by the West African Examination Council (WAEC), an organization that has operated school examinations in several West African and the SSCE replaced the West African General Certificate of Education O and A level examinations.

Nigerian government established the National Examination Council of Nigeria (NECO) to compete with the WAEC.

University entrance: e.g. for science and technology courses UME candidates must possess Five (5) ‘O’ Level credits to include English Language, science subjects and elementary mathematics with at least a pass.

Direct Entry Candidates must possess two ‘A’ Level passes including a relevant science and an OND/NCE in related fields.

The Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE), qualifies professionals to teach in grades one through nine and in technical colleges.

ADVANCED LEVEL CHEMISTRY NOTES that MAY help in your science studies (GCE A Level standard)

These are designed for pre-university students, though 1st year university chemistry students may also find them useful.
