A lovely circular walk in Wensleydale to Redmire Force on the River Ure from the village of West Witton on the busy A684 road - but don't worry, good lay-by parking at the lower end of the village and the walk starts just up the road on the right and descends into a perfectly quiet track.

 After Redmire Force you can return via Swinithwaite to call in at Fairhursts Farm Shop and Berrys Cafe gift shop another Wensleydale treat!!!

From West Witton you head north-west down the delightful track of Back Lane

The Back Lane is an old enclosed road with dry stone walls and many wild flowers

First view of the banks of the River Ure, many pebbles observed as river flow quite low

When you reach the Rive Ure you turn sharp left and walk west along its delightful tree-line banks.

The exposed roots of a tree, soil and silt washed away in floods.

Some quite interesting trees acting as 'art installations'!

In the centre is the eastern end of Batt Island in the middle of the Rive Ure

Molly was much taken by the twisted tree trunk!

First view of Redmire Force, three tiers of rock are marked on the OS map.

Redmire Force is great place for a picnic.

From Redmire Force, climb the steps heading west and at the top is a gate and wall with a signpost to Berrys.

You head SSW across the fields to Berrys - there is no official footpath and the route is permitted for good commercial reasons.

On the busy A684 is the small hamlet of Swinithwaite and there you will find the Fairhursts Berrys cafe, gift and locally produced farm food shop. Berrys is a great place for refreshment after a great walk by the River Ure in Wensleydale. There is a safe square outside for children to play in.

From Berrys in Swinithwaite, you return to north-west along another Back Lane with good views across Wensleydale to Castle Bolton.

At the corner of New Wood you turn sharp right and head south-west back up to the village of West Witton.

Just before the village, looking back up Wensleydale from near West Witton.

After entering the village of West Witton you pass the much praised eating place of the 17th century pub - inn known as the 'Wensleydale Heifer'.
