The grandeur and beauty have made the Mansfield Traquair Centre one of Edinburgh’s most spectacular, surprisingly versatile and flexible venue.

The painter of the murals. Phoebe Anna Traquair (1852-1936) was an Irish-born artist, who achieved international recognition for her role in the Arts and Crafts movement in Scotland. She was a talented illustrator, painter and embroiderer and her works included large-scale murals, embroidery, enamel jewellery and book illuminations. In 1920 she had the distinction of becoming the first woman elected to the Royal Scottish Academy.

The painted walls and ceiling of the Mansfield Traquair Centre is her greatest legacy and one most appreciated and accessible to the general public.
