A Three Day Rail Trip from North Yorkshire to North West Scotland from the 'lowlands of England' to the 'Highlands of Scotland' and a trip to Edinburgh City.

Interesting places to visit, places to stay, good walking areas

The photographs of the wild Scottish Highlands were taken with a cheap digital camera, many through the railway carriage window! Despite this, I hope the five pages of photographs convey the wonderful railway trip holiday in Scotland I so much  enjoyed. I must travel on the Mallaig line soon!

*  Scotland is traversed by some of the most scenic railway lines any tourist can undertake in the UK or even Europe?  *  Why more people, 'the tourists' on holiday, do not forsake their cars and take to the 'train line' for a day I can't explain. But, I hope these humble photographs, mostly taken through the railway carriage window, will inspire more people to make the trip on Scottish trains up through the lowlands and on to the beautiful Highlands regions and districts of Scotland.  *

Travelling by steam train always seems a pleasure, especially if through wonderful scenery either in England, Scotland, Wales or on holiday in the rest of Europe! Railway trips involving seeing or travelling behind a 'real' steam locomotive in action is something special and there is nothing like the sight and sounds of a steam train to invoke feelings of nostalgia in some of us! * There are many steam heritage railway lines including dining car facilities so you can eat a great meal as scenery passes by so see also below for other railway 'connections'!

Interesting walks, historic buildings, towns, villages, townscapes, scenery landscapes to visit and guided walking and lots of tourist attractions, museums, castles, art galleries, towns, villages, cities, when on holiday in Scotland and touring the Scottish Highlands * docspics  © Phil Brown
