92214 standing at Grosmont sheds. This 9F 2-10-0belongs to the British railways standard class designed to haul the heaviest of freight trains and is one of the largest locomotives built in the UK. The 9F 2-10-0 class was designed at Brighton Works by R. A. Riddles.
92214 was built at Swindon in 1959 and entered service in October that year. Originally assigned to 86C Cardiff Canton Depot, later 86E Severn Tunnel Junction Depot. 92214 was withdrawn from service in August 1965 (so only worked for 6 years!) and now carries an 82F Swindon shed plate.
The standard BR 9F 2-10-0 locomotive 92214 COCK O' THE NORTH is the NYMR's newest locomotive (arrived in 2010) and one of the last steam locomotives built by British Railways in 1959. It has been purchased by some members of the NYMR and will be maintained at Grosmont works for regular service on the NYMR. It was rescued from the 'famous' Barry scrapyard and restored at Butterley before arriving at the NYMR.

The railway trip involves seeing or travelling behind a 'real' steam locomotive or heritage diesel in action and there is nothing like the sight and sounds of a steam train to invoke feelings of nostalgia in some of us, even more luxury by having a special trip out on a steam dining train!
